FIRST MVNO TO RELEASE SHARED NUMBER FOR MOBILE AND SMARTWATCH

30 April 2025

Australia’s leading mobile and internet challenger brands More and Tangerine continue to lead the market in giving customers innovative easy data solutions by being the first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Australia to release a Shared Number Plan from 1 April.

The More Shared Number Plan, for a secondary device eSIM, has been developed based on customer feedback meeting customer demand to keep connected in a flexible, innovative way.

Customers can connect a device such as a cellular-enabled smartwatch, to the mobile network and then use their cellular-enabled smartwatch to make and receive calls and use data without taking their primary phone with them.

More customers are able to easily add the Shared Number Plan to their existing 5G plans for just an additional $10 per month to enjoy smartwatch data on the go, and new customers switching to More 5G will also be able to access this new Shared Number pricing when they purchase a 5G plan.

More and Tangerine have continually led MVNO competitors over a ten-year period since entrepreneurial brothers, Andy and Rich Branson took on the legacy telco’s that dominated the market, attracting a major investment from CommBank in 2021.

Established to offer Australians a mobile and internet alternative that provided easy, on the go data and no fuss home and business internet with easy connection, Chief Executive Officer of More and Tangerine Andy Branson said being the first MVNO in Australia to offer Shared Number Plan was testament to the innovation values of both More and Tangerine.

“We have a family business background, and that led to my brother Rich and I founding More and Tangerine in 2014 with the goal of providing Australians a level of telco innovation that wasn’t on offer from other carriers at the time, and being the first MVNO to offer our customers a secondary eSIM with the new Shared Number Plan is testament to that,“ Branson said.

“We’re very proud of our product and customer teams, that have come together to design this solution and position us as first to market for MVNOs. Our teams constantly work on new ideas to meet our customers mobile and data needs – for business, for home and for younger consumers who are our Tangerine customers that need data for study and work.

“We know people like to have choice in how their data aligns to their lifestyle needs, and our Shared Number capability for smartwatches is our latest development in giving Australians what they have come to expect from us.”

More have quickly acquired market share with their products and services. Both brands have grown over a decade, and the Shared Number Plan sees the challenger brands joining Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) Telstra, Optus and Vodafone in offering this secondary SIM to customers.

The new Shared Number Plan can add a shared number to the customer’s existing 5G mobile plan to enjoy the convenience of staying connected on-the-go for just an additional $10 a month. As long as the customer’s eligible 5G SIM-only mobile plan is active, customers can pair their compatible devices and download the eSIM to their smartwatch.

The connected device uses the shared number SIM-only plan’s data allowance only, not banked or bonus data. Shared Number Plan is not available for 4G, compatible with international roaming and is not eligible for any CommBank or More honeymoon offers.

Not all smartwatches are compatible.

Customers can check the More website for further details and compatibility of their wearable products.
